# Choose a plan and manage billing

> Compare the plans, start the 14-day trial, preview a plan change before it bills, and cancel from Manage billing.

export const Plan = ({tier}) => <Badge color="blue">{tier} plan</Badge>;

Every organization starts on Free with no payment step. When you need more, an org admin upgrades from the **Subscription** page. Payments are handled by Paddle, the merchant of record, and prices are in USD.

<Plan tier="Free" />

## Start a paid plan

Pro and Business start with a 14-day free trial. Paddle asks for a payment method at checkout, but nothing is charged until the trial ends. Cancel before it ends and you pay nothing.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Subscription">
    Click **Subscription** in the **Configuration** section of the sidebar. The page title is
    **Subscription & Usage**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the billing period">
    In the **Upgrade** section, click **Monthly** or **Yearly**. The cards show the price for that
    period.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upgrade">
    Click **Upgrade to Pro** or **Upgrade to Business**. Paddle's checkout opens. Complete it there.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Only org admins see the upgrade button. Members and viewers see the plans and prices, with a note that an org admin can upgrade. If you arrived from a locked feature, the **Plan Features** row for it is highlighted.

## Change plan or billing period

If you already pay through Paddle, the **Subscription** page shows a **Change plan** section instead of the upgrade cards. It never opens a second checkout, so you cannot be billed twice.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Pick a target">
    Click a button such as **Switch to Business (\$250/month)** or one for the yearly price. The page
    says you will see the exact amounts before anything is billed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the preview">
    A dialog titled **Switch to** the plan and period shows Paddle's own numbers, with proration,
    tax and credit included. It states what you are charged today, what recurs afterwards, and the
    date it starts.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Click **Confirm switch**, or **Cancel** to change nothing. Money moves only on confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

| Change | What is billed |
| - | - |
| Upgrade, or monthly to yearly | The prorated difference is charged immediately. |
| Downgrade, or yearly to monthly | Takes effect immediately. The unused time is credited on the next invoice. |
| Any change during a trial | Nothing is charged today. The trial continues and the new plan bills when it ends. |

The plan shown on the page updates when Paddle confirms the change. The page says so, and refreshes on its own.

## Update payment details or cancel

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Manage billing">
    On the **Subscription** page, click **Manage billing**. It opens Paddle's portal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what to do">Change your payment details, download invoices, or cancel.</Step>
</Steps>

Cancelling keeps your plan active until the end of the period you paid for, and you are not billed again. The **Subscription** page then shows a banner such as "Your subscription cancels on" a date. Only org admins see **Manage billing**.

<Warning>
  Deleting an organization does not cancel billing, and an organization with a paid subscription
  cannot be deleted until you cancel it.
</Warning>

## Child organizations and coupons

A child organization of an Enterprise parent uses the parent's plan, quotas and AI budget. Its **Subscription** page says it is on the parent's plan and offers nothing to buy.

If you have a coupon code, org admins can enter it under **Redeem Coupon** on the same page. A coupon plan shows an expiry date and does not renew.

## Watch your usage

**Usage This Month** shows gauges for tokens, investigations, alerts, users and automations against your plan's limits, so you can see a limit coming before you reach it.
